AI News: Google's Goofy AI-Powered Emoji Scavenger Hunt!

in #ai6 years ago

Well, they are at it again folks. AI is making some big moves into mainstream adoption. They are using it in China heavily at the moment to track behavior and it is commonly used on the internet for picture / ID recognition applications. But now, Google has taken this technology into the world of fun AR games and if you've got your phone on you just log on to emojiscavengerhunt.withgoogle.com and get a look at the new Emoji Scavenger Hunt game. This game has been described as a new AI experiment created by Google. Apparently it is one of the company’s first machine learning tools offered to the public, a fun little game.

The Emoji game that Google created gets you to use your phone’s camera to find objects that match emoji within a time limit. If you can match the emoji with a real object your time increases.

It’s a well-implemented little experiment, although the object recognition feature can be a bit hit-or-miss. It refused to recognize my plug for example, though I took advantage of its lack of precision later to have a dish towel stand in for a scarf. I got through a dozen items before being stumped by the game’s demand for a strawberry.

Want to see what I'm talking about? Take a look:

One outcome that seems clear about this new release is the fact that AI features like object recognition are becoming increasingly part of everyday life. Another point I should make is the fact that Google’s I/O developer conference is coming up next week, which means there will certainly be some additional AI news to share.

So what's coming up ahead then? Well apparently Google's AI camera app, Google Lens is going to get a major upgrade. In addition updates on the company’s cloud offerings, like AutoML and their high-tech AI chips known as TPUs are sure to be made.

The one thing that is getting increasingly harder to deny with each passing day is the fact that AI is becoming intertwined with society and this will inevitably result in a paradigm shift of sorts. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Well it depends on its creators or the people who implement it, motives and ethics. Lets hope for the best shall we?

What do you guys think about this cool new goofy AI game? Please leave your thoughts and comments below!

Good post, congratlations, greetings from Venezuela!!!

Lengthy post alert!

Ahm...lemme begin by saying I love your posts. I... I really need the words now. You are the satisfaction to my techdiction (tech addiction). And what's more, you explain...so...well. God!

OK, about the post...

I've always been a fan of AI, from the moments I first discovered them in movies and saw documentaries about them on t.v., I've always loved the technology behind them (the main reason I wish to be a programmer). Artificial Intelligence is now so intertwined with the 21st Century world that a major software Ebola is sure to kill half of the world's population and it'll take a lot for the rest, alive, to survive (wow, that rhymed😁)

After making this comment, I'll go have my fair taste of this new object-recognition feature thingy but if I may add, when you were talking about the game, I thought you were referring to Google Lens but now knowing they're two different things, any mind is utterly blown.

You have just given my tech appetite the biggest satisfaction ever! Wow! What a way to start the day (I rhymed again😄😄)

P.S. When you spoke about Google I/O, I instantly remembered Android P and the news that they'll be releasing the second developer preview for the P-version of Google's's Android OS OS. (Lemme stop here before I'll bore you😊)

Seriously man, thanks for this post. I truly appreciate.
