Public Health Forum is an opportunity for anyone interested to bring solutions to common healthcare problems of general concern especially now that AIR-CLINIC could possibly extend its tentacles offline. Your opinion matters to us all!

Last week, we discussed about : Should Alternative Medicine be given due recognition as with Conventional Medicine?!,

It made quite an interesting discuss as people shared a lot even mixed with personal experiences. We appreciate the input of the following persons who dropped their meaningful opinion and well thought contributions, some of which spoke from their personal experiences.

They include @drqbm, @elvigia @bmotives.

On the Topic of this Week...

We all know that before a a certified Doctor, there was a student Doctor who went through the vigorous training of medical school. Interestingly, many patients have frowned at student doctors being left to treat or supervise their treatment regimen. Many feel or think they are not yet qualified to take on the responsibilities of managing the workup of patients especially when mistakes happen.

So then, should these young doctors be given a particular period of time to treat patients after their training in medical school before they are fully given the license to treat people in order to reduce some of the health mistakes encountered or should it be left as it has always been?

Let's get to hear from you all perhaps from your experiences or of others as well. Every comment gets a good Upvote.

We expect your candid opinions on this topic!

Well @air-clinic, from my view I think. Before they can be allowed to treat nor take charge of humans life, should be when they have fully undergone all series of medical study and maximum administration be conducted on them before they can be given chance to treat, because this human life not animal, nor toy. Thank you.

Hi guys , so I'm gonna answer this question , I myself is a medical student studying in china...and I know we are not having a lot of practical exposure. So I would say , it's better to have a period of training after the course , until being left to treat patients. Because without knowing what you are doing , left alone , idk what can happen. I'm doing my internship now. And I'm trying my best to grasp practical procedures.

But I really support for having some particular period of training out of med school before going to that the patients. Just for the sake of patients and the young doctors confidence.

quite a great topic here, I believe the main reason we call it a student doctor is done to the fat the person is still at the process of getting informed to the field of practice.
For a student to take complete change means he has been proven to qualify for it, but human life should not be thrilled with to check if you are qualified for it or not, so I believe there should be very clear check before a student can be allowed to do what a professional is doing.
Even though sometimes a student many have one or two things the so called professional don't seem to know because we learn everyday by day, thanks for the topic one more.

I still have a question here what is the possible solution to a prostate cancer patient? What are the best medicine for him and measure.

A prostate cancer patient needs to be treated by a trained urologist. It would be wrong for us to advice over the counter meds. Thank you for contributing to the topic.

thanks for the information I appreciate your support to serve humanity, am good with your response to the question thanks once again

Student doctors should be allowed to treat under supervision of senior doctors.Medical practice does not follow "all or none phenomenon".It is a gradual process. So if student doctors are totaly kept out of touch, how can they learn?. Therfore, they must be given due exposure under supervison.

Thank you for this unique contribution. Keep it up!

@air-clinic let me talk from my own personal experience:

I was on chemotherapy some years ago and they placed some house officers and final year students in charge of my daily chemo drugs.

I was overdrugged twice (at least the times we discovered) and I still don't know how I survived in that hospital till today

When it comes to life I will prefer dealing with experienced hands while the students learn and gain experience

Sorry about your awful experience. Junior doctors are supposed to learn from others and ask questions where necessary.

many people have had good experiences with homeopathy, they should have a chance.

The doctors went through a period of preclinical training, rigorous and exhaustive, which prepare us for patient care, that is, clinical training. During this stage we are surrounded by trained medical personnel, nurses and postgraduate doctors, with years of studies, in which we support any doubt.
In this way, our clinical training happens step by step; by systems and pathologies; and adapting to the clinical, imaging and laboratory tests that each pathology requires.
Definitely, I agree that medical students can treat patients under the supervision of other more experienced doctors.
The probability of error will always be present. But medical orders, given by a doctor in charge of the students and even the nursing staff, are more than alert to any medical indication that seems strange.

Awesome ma'am @elvigia. Thanks for your comment.
