Elvis Lives!

And mainly in America it seems. I saw a video a while back with some amazing facts about "the leader of the free world". These were so amazing that I had to fact-check some of the more ridiculous claims made in this 100000000^th top-ten video.

But they were true... The most amazing fact, in my humble opinion, is the fact that there's actually serious advice about protecting your Elvis-sighting on an official government website! Apparently there are so many requests coming in about how to protect an Elvis-sighting, that the government decided to explain how to act after an Elvis-sighting on their official copyrights website. I couldn't believe it, but here it is:

Copyright law does not protect sightings. However, copyright law will protect your photo (or other depiction) of your sighting of Elvis. File your claim to copyright online by means of the electronic Copyright Office (eCO). Pay the fee online and attach a copy of your photo. For more information on registering a copyright, see SL-35. No one can lawfully use your photo of your sighting, although someone else may file his own photo of his sighting. Copyright law protects the original photograph, not the subject of the photograph.

The explanation is perfectly reasonable, that's not the amazing thing here. What boggles my mind is the number of times people must be seeing Elvis walking around, in a coffee-stain or a fried egg... and think they struck gold or really attach meaning to it.

Another thing I just had to check for myself, just because it's so crazy, is the fact that in America a person gets shot by a toddler once every week!

In many of these shooting cases, a toddler finds a gun and accidentally shoots himself with it – 27 out of the 43 toddler shootings involved self-inflicted injuries. Earlier this month in Ohio, for instance, a 3-year-old boy found his father’s loaded gun in the kitchen and fatally shot himself in the head with it.

I'll leave you with the video, and do fact-check every one of the claims; doing so will lead to some interesting information you might not have known before, it did for me at least ;-) And however sad some of the facts presented may be, all things considered most of the video and fact-checking made me laugh...
