If you are looking for something to do this is a good thing to do! It is great to see the old designs of Detroit and hear some of the histories. Also, a GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY opportunity if you like to take photos. It great to see a company providing a FREE service to the community to get people to come out..it helps tourism, the city and yourself! THANKS, Pure Detroit and the building that allow the visitors!

You can walk through on your own but are missing out if you don't go on the tours given by these knowledgeable & friendly Detroiters. They are passionate about the city and its architecture & history. You will also be taken upstairs (in the case of the Fisher to vacant offices on the 19th floor). You can't do this part on your own. Currently, on Sunday, there are tours of both buildings at 12 & 2 pm. You will see many of the same people doing both buildings along with you. I chose to walk to the Guardian from my hotel for the noon tour and Lyft it out to the Fisher for the 2 pm tour. For a true Detroit experience, you can take the brand new QLine streetcar between the two.

If you enter on Grand, you walk straight through the cathedral-like lobby to the opposite end and sign up for the tour at the Pure Detroit store. Allow time to browse and chat with the fabulous people in the store-they have great advice on things to do, events, bar & restaurant recommendations, etc. Of course, the store is chock full of Detroit centric merchandise! You have three main stops. One in the very beginning by the store, then you go up to the 3rd level mezzanine to get a close up look at the lobby ceiling and lighting details, and finally we were taken up to vacant offices on the 19th floor where you can see downtown and into Canada & pretty much in all directions as nothing is as tall as the Fisher here.

The detail, materials, and craftsmanship are just incredible. You will learn how the Fisher brothers came to Detroit from Ohio as coachbuilders who saw the future in automobiles. They became so wealthy building their "Body by Fisher" components for not only GM but a host of other car companies that they were able to tell architect Albert Kahn to have free reign and build them and the city a palace. The result is a stunning mini city wrapped in soaring Art Deco flourishes. It was supposed to be much larger, but the Great Depression ended that plan. Eventually, the brothers would sell part then all of the company to General Motors. It is just a fascinating story and is told with great passion by the people at Pure Detroit. This is a must do while in the Motor City.
