Standing in great esteem, dignity and sacred grandeur, the Cathedral of Chihuahua upholds the Catholic beliefs that place great emphasis on the role of Jesus, divine power and most importantly the religious institution in the lives of the individuals. The structural design of the cathedral is reflective of the architecture of the colonial times in the northern part of Mexico. Thus, situated in the Plaza De Armas, the structure of the cathedral depicts the artwork and designing of the Spanish baroque and has the style of a Latin cross along with the dome right above the crossing.
The window of the cathedral is octagonal in shape and depicts the glasswork design that was shipped right from Germany. The most fascinating aspect of the cathedral is that the frontage of it depicts the presence of Solomonic pillars that were not a new concept in Spain at the time of the original construction of the cathedral. Moreover, on the entrance of the cathedral, there are the monuments of the 12 apostles of Christ along with the clock on the top, and the finishing touch is given with the sculpture of the angel that depicts the additions to the church's existing design in the 19th century. However, it was not until 1874 when these additions such as the area below the angel that was occupied by the Spanish coat of arms and the clock was removed by the architect Jose Felix that led to the cathedral retain its originality.
In the southern side of the nave, the visitors can speculate the Most Blessed Sacrament that has heavy ornamentation and baroque design. In the basement of the cathedral, the visitors can take the tour to the Sacred Art Museum that is situated right next to the tombs of the past archbishops. In the museum, the visitors can speculate the wide range of sacred paintings by the artists who were renowned in the colonial era Jose de Alcibar, Antonia de Torres and Miguel Cabrera. Along with the paintings, certain artifacts such as the embellished throne that the Pope used during his reign in 1990 and a great number of cathedrals of the archbishops are displayed there. Furthermore, along with the historical paintings and portraits, the museum also depicts the large range of contemporary artworks of the cathedral and the life-size sculptures of the saints that date back almost two centuries.
