Situated in the historic district of the city of Saltillo, this is a Catholic institution that is present opposite the Plaza de Armas. The beauty of this attraction is that it is considered as one of the architectural gems and jewels of the city. A look at the building would leave the visitors awe-inspired due to its magnificence and grandeur. In terms of exterior alluring, this cathedral is one of the tallest building in the northern district of Mexico, and this gives the cathedral the prestige of being one of the highest building in the world.
This building was initially inaugurated at the site of a former parish by the priest Felipe Suarez in the mid of 18th century that is 1745. However over time, when the Catholic beliefs in the region gained popularity, and people in great numbers started to embrace the faith, this initial project went under expansion and renovations. Thus, under the reign of Nicolas Hernandez, in the year 1890, the religious institution received its major expansions and enlargements. Nevertheless, it was not until 1891, when the Diocese of the cathedral was established by a bull designed by the influential Pope Leo XIII, the initial church received the rank and status of being a notable cathedral in the region.
So, with all this history and the efforts behind the designation of a simple church to a significant cathedral all clear before us, let us now come to its exterior structural design. From a distance, the visitors can easily spot the place due to its ornate and exquisite design and shine. The best time of visit the cathedral is at the festival of Santa Cristo. At that time, the whole plaza is full of activity and vibrancy. So, the cathedral along with its innate exquisite structural design and the vibrant activity around the plaza shines with even more grandeur and magnificence. Moreover, if you get the chance to take the tour up to the bell tower, you will realize that the cathedral is definitely worth a visit. It is because you will be able to sightsee the panoramic and breathtaking view of such a festive occasion from above.
The altar, without any doubt, is one of the beautiful and significant aspects of both the main church and side chapel.
