Situated in the heart of the city of Aguascalientes, this church is considered as the most beautiful piece of architecture because it hosts the most impressive collection of paintings and the tranquil, lush gardens in its surroundings. There are many reasons why the tourist would love to make a visit to this peaceful and breathtaking place. So, let us see some of them;
Situated on the edge of the garden of San Marcos, the shape of the church is highly unusual that invites curiosity and intrigue from the visitor’s side. The credit of such an unusual yet distinctive architecture goes to the asymmetrical towers and clashing designing styles that catch the eye of every other visitor from outside. One step inside this striking building will inspire and lure the visitors to go further in as the entire temple is adorned with charming and majestic religious artwork that pulsates sanctity to the core.
If we trace back the origin of this religious place, we will be astounded to know that it dates back to the starting of the 17th century. So, it was initially founded by the indigenous people of the city in 1604 and was called the Temple of the New People of Indians of the San Marcos. As this temple is an exceptional piece of historical architecture, the people also come to admire its historic structural designing. It took around 100 years for the church to complete its proposed structural design that is in 1765, it opened its doors for the public. And till present, the church has succeeded to retain its existing design even after renovations.
As far as the exterior look of the church is concerned, the visitors will get awestruck at the sight of the ornamental façade. At the middle of the pediment, the visitors will see the stained glass window that highlights the portrait of Our lady of Carmen. Moreover, at different heights, the visitors can see two towers and the midst of them the clock tower brings itself into notice.
