Chain of lakes; a beautiful communion of nature and manmade design

Although every major city has high rise buildings, museums, monuments that restore their historical and cultural heritage, but the beautiful lakes and parks in Minneapolis outwits all of these manmade constructions. Earlier when the lakes were considered as damp backwaters, the city authorities decided to transform it a place that becomes a magnet for tourists all year around. Therefore the waterfront became public property thanks to the efforts of the city builders.

At present many of the homes owned by the wealthy and influential capitalists of the city face the waterfront. However, the shores of the lakes have become public property. The shores have become an enjoyable spot where people indulge in activities such as bicycle riding, skating and take a walk alongside the cool waters of the lake alone, with the company or with their dogs as the soft breeze refreshingly brush their cheeks.

In the summertime, when most of the people are on their vacations, they can gather at the lakes and indulge in water activities like boating, canoeing, swimming, and sailing. They can also hold warm picnics on the shore. Almost every evening, concerts are held on the shores of Lake Harriet, and other theatrical performances and community festivals revel in the parks on the lakeside.

All year round, you can find tourists and visitors who love to run, jog and skate under the warming nature on the paved paths that are dedicated for skating, bicycling and jogging. These paved paths connect the take by their looping structure and stretch crossways the city of Minneapolis and run alongside the Mississippi River.

At present, these paved paths are the prominent aspect of Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway which includes around 50 miles of trekking paths.

Among the chain of Lakes, the Lake Calhoun has three beaches and has vast open-air stretches. That’s why this lake is mostly used for windsurfing and sailing. This lake then connects to the Lake Harriet which is mostly a family dominated lake. This lake has two beaches and a beautiful rose garden and a small encapsulated playground beyond it where kids could indulge in innocent active, playful activities, round around and giggle under the bosom of Mother Nature. Two blocks from the western side of the Lake Harriet there are small coffee shops and cafés where the visitors could go for a refreshing coffee and munch delicious snacks so that their outings gets contentment with fun.
