Managed by San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority, the San Francisco Bay Ferry functions as a public transport through a ferry system. The tourists who will visit the bay area to see the ferry services will realize that this transportation came in to being or increased in importance and the 1998 earthquakes impaired road transportation through the San Francisco- Oakland bridge. The bridge was closed for, and that’s why the ferry service evolved so that people’s travel should not stop in any case.

San Francisco Bay area is not conglomerated with the Golden Gate ferry that gives ferry transportation service to the passengers towards the Marin County.

Weta has great future plans of expanding the Ferry service of the San Francisco Bay Ferry by including the destinations such as Redwood City, Richmond, and Berkeley. The passengers can reach these three destinations from San Francisco Bay area through the ferry. In the long run, Weta also has envisioned the joining of Treasure Islands, Hercules, Antioch and Martinez with the ferry service provided through San Francisco.

The visitors on their tour to the bay area will see that at present, the San Francisco Bay Ferry has thirteen ferries and three of them are under construction. Altogether, 16 ferries will be in full operation in 2019. However, by the end of 2035, the bay area has great plans for the expansion of its fleet of ferries as they have decided to include forty-four additional ferries in its fleet.

The ferry service is provided all the seven days a week from Vallejo and Oakland to San Francisco Ferry Building and Pier 41. There is also a provision of limited ferry services Weta to the AT & T Park which is the venue for baseball matches from Oakland.

Let us now take a look at some of the route the ferry service in the San Francisco Bay area takes and how it connects different areas:

The ferry service from the San Francisco Ferry Building also connects with the Bay farm island. The duration of the journey is thirty minutes and the service on the five working days of the week is extremely busy.

The ferry service also draws a connection between San Francisco, Oakland, and Alameda. As it was established in 1989, the ferry service was earlier termed as Alameda Oakland Ferry. The ferry service is catered to the four destinations such as Pier 41, Clay Street Terminal, Gateway Center and San Francisco Building.
