Nestled on the west end of the National Mall, in Washington DC, is one of the most visited American monuments with 6 million people visiting each year. It is dedicated to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Memorial is in the form of Greek temple, and it has a sizeable famous sculpture of Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions of his famous speeches. You can often see this monument in movies and television shows which are being filmed in Washington. You can also see it on the back of both one cent coin and the five dollar bill.

When you go in and look up into the wall of interior you can see the memorable quote: "In this temple, as in the hearts of people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever." Below this, there is one of the most popular statues in the world, a 19-foot tall statue of Abraham Lincoln. It is looking over columns and greenery and across the Reflecting Pool. There are 36 columns where each one represents one state in the U.S. at the date of President Lincoln's death. First one is Delaware, the first state which ratified the U.S. Constitution, then comes the second to ratify, Pennsylvania, and so on. To the left of the sculpture, there is his famous speech, the Gettysburg Address. There is also his second most popular speech in the history of the U.S. on the right of the statue, the Second Inaugural Address. It was given just a few months before his death. This site is open 24 hours a day, throughout the year and the entrance is free. It is also wheelchair accessible. The best way to come there is by taking a metro or by foot because parking is minimal. There are rangers around the site from which you can hear a lot about Lincoln's history. It is recommended to visit in the early morning or after dark when the crowds are smaller. It is especially beautiful at night when it is illuminated. Well, the known part of this site is also a Reflecting Pool. It is around 2 feet long, and it is also a place where the part of the famous Forrest Gump movie took part. Don't forget to check out the place where Martin Luther King Jr gave his famous „I have a dream" speech. That spot is marked on the landing, and when you stop, you can imagine the crowds listening to him.

Take your time and enjoy this popular site with remarkable architecture and inspiring quotes all around.
