Situated on the outskirts of Puerto Rico, no public transport operates within this historic quarter that would take the tourists and locals to visit the grand fortress. Therefore the only way, you can reach the fortress is through the foot. Taxi service is also available. Self-driving is not advisable because the roads that lead to the fortress are too narrow, are one-way, and the drivers’ often face the difficulty of navigation.

The fortress is closed on Thanks Giving Day, New Year day and Christmas Day. The admission fees of the fortress are highly affordable and minimal.

On their visit to the fortress, the tourists will realize that the fortified walls that once in time protected Puerto Rico from getting invaded by foreign forces or colonial influences, now relates the same history from its grandstanding. It has become a place where tourists offer their admiration and awe as the fortified walls breath out the air of inspiration for them.

The tourists on their visit to the fortress will also realize that this fort was initially constructed by the Spanish colonialist so that they can defend themselves from the attacks and invasion from the sea. In both the first and the second World wars, this fortress was used as an active military base by the Us armed forces. So throughout history from colonial times to the last world wars this ancient fortress has been fulfilling its purpose of providing people with robust defensive mechanisms. At present, this place has been granted heritage status by the UNESCO and by attracting up to two million visitors each year, it has become one of the most popular visiting spots among tourist.
