Situated in Riverside, California, the Riverside National Cemetery covers the area of 921 acres, and the land pays homage to the prominent military people of the United States defense forces. With such vast acreage, the Riverside National Cemetery is ranked as the third largest graveyard that is monitored and controlled by the National Cemetery Administration. Based on the number of interments and burials, it has been one of the most active graveyards under this administration since 2000.

The Riverside National cemetery holds immense significance in the sense that many of the notable personalities who took part in the Second World War and sacrificed their lives are given prestigious burials in the grounds of the Riverside National Cemetery. Although the cemetery site was chosen in 1976, those individuals especially Ysmael Villegas who paid for his life for his services in the Second World War was given a re-burial in these grounds.

In 2003, the additional 182 acres land was incorporated into existing by the United States Air force.

In the dramatic and convoluted landscape of the Cemetery, there is an avenue in the center surrounded by memorial circles, lakes that signify peace and tranquillity, interments that are fashioned in a native style and a memorial amphitheater.

The names of all the prestigious military personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of their country are engraved on the walls of the Medal of Honour Memorial. Moreover, in the cemetery, there is also an effigy by the name of Veterans Memorial fashioned by a Colorado sculptor Thomas Schomberg. This statue pays tribute to all the veterans, military leaders and personnel who have given immense sacrifices and lost their lives in the prospect of safeguarding their country and countrymen. As the visitors speculate the statue, they all give a moment of silence and respect from the bottom of their hearts the emotional and personal sacrifices these people have given. The physical appearance of the 12-foot tall pedestal upon which the statue stands is enough to inspire the visitors. It is because the statue features the body of an anonymous soldier that hangs lifeless on the pedestal and his/her face is half-clothed by a great wrapping. In this way, the statue allows the visitors to pay silent commemoration to any soldier whether man or women, private or officer who lost his/her life in ruthless wars.
