The museum is dedicated to the outstanding and amazing work of Mexican artist Federico Silva located in the city of San Luis Potosi in Mexico. The Neo-classical influenced architecture of the museum building is highly impressive that initially was constructed housing a hospital. The building was built in the 17th century and was used as a hospital gradually converted into a school and finally converted into a coveted museum of sculpture showcasing both permanent and temporary collection. The initial old Neo-classical architecture was slightly converted and renovated to give a better finish, housing a number of monolithic Silva sculptures.

The museum was inaugurated in the year 1907 and currently holds a number of permanent collections of renowned sculptor and artist Federico Silva along with a temporary exhibition of collection from national and international sculptors. Federico Silva is the recipient of the 2016 fine arts medal and is known for his outstanding sculpting work. Some of the prominent permanent collection by Federico Silva in the museum is masses and geometric voids, gates of paradise, scriptum, Bat II, polyptych, chaneque pilot, fragmented man, tribute to Tamayo, The Lord of the rays, On Hold, Wake, The Lord of Thorns, Skull, Of Corn, Eagle Knight, Snakehead, etc. All the sculptors are made by Silva and displayed in the museum.

The temporary collection of the museum is also very fascinating and interesting with the collection changing every now and then. The archipelago collection holds collection by 4 Mexican sculptors made from 4 transfigured materials. Kinetic art also is one of the displays in the temporary exhibition along with double bending and many other archives of temporary exhibitions. The museum is one of its kind in the Latin America region dedicated solely to sculpturing and art that was inaugurated on 18th September in the year 2003.

The motive of using the Neoclassical building turned into a museum is to preserve the work of Silva and stand as an example of impressive art and sculpture nationally and internationally. The hours of operation from Monday to Saturday is 10 am to 6 pm with the exception of Tuesday when the museum is closed, and on Sunday it is 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. The general admission fee for the entry is $30.00, and admission of Sundays is free. The fee for admission for students, teachers, seniors and disabled is $15.00. The museum is a great learning place for aspiring sculptors and artists.
