Situated on the hilly terrain on the eastern part of Oakland, the Redwood Regional Park is renowned for preserving the historic coastal belt of redwoods that are dated 1200 t0 1800 years back. Tourists when visiting the park will be amazed to see how the unique geographical conditions of the redwood forests create coastal conditions for the sustenance of these ancient trees. Moreover, the valley is also dampened all year round and remains safeguarded from harsh winds and extreme temperatures.

At present, the redwoods inside the regional park are third generation trees that are almost 100 years old. However, one first-generation redwood tree remains in the park. This tree is 93feet tall and grows unbelievably from a cliff near Merrit College. The reason, this tree has survived from demolishment was that it was out of reach of the loggers.

They include horse riding, archery, jogging, arranging of family picnics and hiking in the redwood forests. If you want to hold a picnic for 50 to 150 people, the Regional Park management can hold arrangements for you on advance bookings. Similarly, if the adventurous and fun loving tourists want to indulge in overnight camping, the park authorities will make arrangements on reservations.

A distance of a quarter mile from the Stream Trail to the canyon Staging area, the park also holds a play structure for children so that they can indulge in short customized plays.

One of the most loved activity for the tourist is speculation of the wild nature flourishing before them. The park is the habitat for one of the well-known birds of prey in the Northern hemisphere, the Golden Eagle and the California Striped non-venomous snake. Other animals include rabbit, squirrels, deer, and raccoons.
