Plaza del Sol is considered as one of the most expensive, affluent and beautiful squares situated on the western edge of the city on Periférico de la Juventud. Within this popular square that mainly interests the upper-class segment of the society, there are various outlets and shops that belong to topnotch brands and establishments. They include the Hugo Boss, Zara, Levis, Liverpool, Sanborns, Dorians, Sears, and many others. Along with the exceptional and high-class shopping experience that the plaza offers, there is an entertainment complex in the form of a casino where millions of dollars and currency are at stake for a lucky win.
For the people who are enticed at the sight of books and the promising knowledge that carry, there is a renowned bookstore with the name of Gouvil Bookstore that houses comprehensive book collection of varied interest. Furthermore, there is a food store by the identity of GNC General Nutrition Center where the top priority is the promotion of those food items that are perfect for the people’s hale and hearty lifestyle. For the children, there is an interactive video game center where the different modes of video gaming set the booming mood of the place. The food court hosts a variety of food stations that have the local taste as well the taste of the chain restaurants and franchises. The cinemas are the most attractive attraction especially the Cinepolis where the visitors, both kids, and adults can enjoy movies of their varied interest and preferences.
A look at the redevelopment plan of the plaza in 2011
Following the acquisition of the square by the DDR Corporation from the former ownership from Centros Isla in 2011, the DDR Corporation declared that the plaza will be heavily renovated and will receive series of redevelopments for the upcoming six years. Within the time period of the redevelopment that was expected to last till 2017, the corporation had plans of enlarging the existing space of the plaza so that the new outlets and retail shops can be accommodated. Therefore, as per the redevelopment plans, additional 35,500 sq ft space was included in the existing structure of the plaza by relocating the food court to the upper floor and using the former food court space to give the place for shops on rent. Moreover, under the requirements of the redevelopment plan two, more parking spaces were included in the plaza and there was the construction of 37,000 feet space to accommodate the key anchor’s expansion along with the building of subordinate anchor boxes.
