The reverence and the significance of Catholic ideologies preserved and spread through the San Francisco Temple

In the City of Chihuahua of the Mexican City, situated at 15 Calle Libertad, this temple is one of the leading Catholic churches that aims to spread the importance of Catholic beliefs in all the aspects of individual life. Along with playing an influential role in the Chihuahua society as an ardent religious institution, the temple is also renowned in terms of its designing. In another world, the temple is one of the few remaining examples of colonial architecture that are the symbol of the past and a source of tourism by intrigued artists and historians.
Although it is named as St Francis of Assisi or the San Francisco Temple, at present it is administrated and backed through all means by the Dominicans. Nevertheless, the structural design and the architecture of the temple shows a profound influence of Franciscan austerity. It is because such like the typical Franciscan estates and mansions, the design of the building is simple and serene without any ornamental or baroque designing and the painting of it in different white tones.
A look at the history and background behind the construction of the temple
This church has a dominant standing in the Chihuahua city as it is one of the first churches that were constructed in the city. The initial construction of the church commenced in 1717 under the architectural plan that iterates the construction of a Latin cross alongside the dome with a crossing. Along with being a church that upholds austere Catholic beliefs, this religious institution was also the first school for the ladies of the city.
The church further regained its significance when the assassinated body of Father Miguel Hidalgo who was entitled as the father of the Nation was engraved in the tomb in the west chapel of the temple. The event had great significance in the Mexican history as it narrates the events of the Spanish influence that led to the Mexican Independence. In this way, the church has historical importance as the marker pays homage to the original burial site of the Father of the Nation.
Moreover, for the first time in 2004, the San Francisco Temple was illuminated with fluorescent lighting in order to celebrate the festive mood of the Mexican Revolution. And till today, the church functions as an active parish.
