The Easy Excuse - Stop Being An Accomplice

in #anarchy6 years ago (edited)

"I just do it because I'm ordered to," is the ring buoy when we are at bay. Nothing gives more relief than not taking part of the fault, looking for a support that justifies our actions. And even when a feeling of righteousness tries to loom in the horizon of our mind, we shut down the moment of sincerity, killing the only opportunity we have in order to change internally.

It happens everywhere. As I said in one of my previous posts, Finding Usefulness In Learning , we tend to extract justification from the injustice or apparent unreasonableness of others.

This means that when we spot something that is wrong or shouldn't be done, we get stuck. Most people normally do nothing. They just comply. And even when they could admit otherwise in private, they end up giving up to pointless pretexts.

Becoming an unknown accomplice

There's a scene in the Mr. Robot TV Show which reflexes our surrender to incomprehensible acts. In the clip above, a character is excusing herself because she has to follow some illogical rules. She doesn't question them, but the worst thing is that she doesn't take a moment to think it over and realize about the incongruity of the situation.

Some might say she could have not fault because she needs to follow what their boss says in order to keep her job. But the other character understands that. What he expects is just an affirmation that there's something wrong with the establishment. That's the moment of real realization.

When we do something, we need to think about its true validity. And because we need to place ourselves into somebody else shoes and feel what any person is going through, it doesn't mean we have to repeat the same compliant behavior. There's a responsibility we have with our fellows to respond accordingly to the situation. That's how we start becoming productive because we are willingly identifying mistakes.

If we don't at least admit that there are flaws inside an ecosystem, we're just becoming a deficient element that flutters in a broken environment.

Certifying the current education

As a teacher, I've seen many colleagues doing something that they know won't work. But they keep on because they feel compelled to. Also, the educational system is so old-fashioned that the advances of the world are just flying over it at light speed.

Naturally, culture stamps its own mark. Every region is different and education is handled according to the culture of each nation. However, academic teachers are mostly the same in relation to what they should do; I mean the primordial duty (to teach having a broad point of view and embracing diverse ideas).

I read a good post by @broncofan99, where he points out about the emphasis parents place on report cards, which is understandable. But the parent's focus is on the grades and not on the progress their children have. This gives teacher's work a sense of futility. Parents become another arm of the faulty educational system, growing thus the gang of accomplices.

It spreads everywhere

As time passes, it looks like that the accomplices scatter. I recently came across a post about critical thinking by @daniscib. It resembles how great minds like Albert Einstein and Issac Newton have used it to make incredible contributions which have advanced the world.

They never took anything as ultimate truths. At beginning they were mocked or considered rebels, and even called crazy. But see what they did. Other men and women like them were ranted by people from different times and diverse cultures because they just didn't take side to what's wrong. They analytically evaluated things and gave their assessments based on logic and wide appreciation.

Sadly, there's no much people with critical thinking. And even those who have it, somehow they hide it because they want to fit into certain groups. Such attitude is taken as something normal. And it passed to other people. It's not surprised at all to see many individuals justifying something erroneous because they say they don't have the power to change it. But it doesn't mean that they have to bend down their critical thinking.

We can see, that in much of the interactions among people, there's a reluctance to step out and express real "disagreement." It can be a matter of pride since the sense of belonging someone can have toward his job might cloud the reasoning. But as I've implied, we wind up justifying the unjustifiable.

Evolution starts when we get out of complacency

Many times people say they harbor hope that someday we will change. But how will we change if we continue being accomplices by getting out with excuses. The people who strive to enlighten will get discouraged by the outlook, and any vestigial hope will be crushed by the immeasurable complacency.

The one thing we need in order to grow integrally is simply assuming things as they really are. That is, to reason and make the most plausible decisions. And if something goes wrong, we just make the necessary adjustments or change the direction. And everyone should be accountable regarding the labor they do.

We have to take into account that everything we say is a reflection of our views and personality. Even when we lie, and try to conceal our real thoughts, we're just leaving an impression that makes a concept about us.

You’re point is so valid and extremely important. I have this discussion with my students and with parents all the time. We need to teach kids to stop and think about the messages they are receiving and why. Especially in this age of technology where young people are being targeted so much by media. We can’t just take everything we see online as fact and truth, not should we just fall in line and comply when suggested. We need to teach young peopento stop and think critically about these messages and make informed decisions. Thanks for the shout out on my post.

It was very insightful your post about student's scores. Very few teachers notice this. The majority just follow the herb. As you implied, other regions must veer the head and observe what Finland is doing with education, and use their approach. They will then realize that the importance cannot be placed solely on grades but on constant progress.
