I've never understood the political system. I can see merits in some parts of the left and right wing. The worst part for me is that voters are bribed. Politicians make spending promises that they can't afford to do, then they have to borrow more money for them. I prepared a comment before watching to the end haha - the ending brought me clearness about the wing stuff and your opinion on that topic.
So now I want to agree with you:
The real problem of stagnation in politics is that the world actually separates these two directions and that all people are trying to see the whole system in black/white.
That is not the truth. No one is the same - also not in the politics.
I am living in Germany and we have a strong left wing and an uprising right wing in the mainstream politics. In both of these bases, you have stupid people and smart people with actually some good beliefs.
But I try to see me not in any of these bases to stay open for other opinions and to not press myself in a box. Most of my political beliefs would count as left but what the hell? I am myself and not any other left guy. I have a different background, different life goals and of course different relations to people/things.
To be really productive all the people need to talk together. The "two-party democracy"(lol) is one of the worst systems to bring all the people on one table but even with 5 or 6 parties in the parlament there is no real movement for freeing / saving the people.
But yeah.

Yeah, any time you are dealing with "GOVERNMENT" the goal is mind control of the people, if words have meanings anyway. The people should not be free to think in a system like that.

Left authoritarianism or right authoritarianism are both contrary to liberty. Unfortunately, as you described, the beast in the middle held aloft by the opposing authoritarian wings is not our friend, ally, or servant.
