The Need For Streetwise Spirituality In A Sea Of False White Light.

We are living in times where undoubtedly there is some kind of spiritual awareness taking place, on the one hand, this is great to see as humans are starting to understand that they are much more than what we have been led to believe. We are becoming more in tune with our essence, our creativity and our true purpose on this Planet, and that we have the potential to be so much more than 9-5 worker bees for the State.

This is exciting to see on the one hand but I also feel there needs to be some grounding too, I see much of this 'New Age' movement as a spiritual bypass to the darkness both in ourselves and as a collective. Don't get me wrong I'm all for 'love and light' but isn't this what the hippies were doing in the 1960s? Look at what happened there, they were undoubtedly onto something but ultimately we are still being dictated to by men and women in suits, the television, and an inherent belief in authority which has nothing to do with freedom and spirituality.

It seems to me that there are many cul de sacs along this spiritual path where people are getting stuck. We associate being spiritual with taking some yoga classes or gong baths, and whilst these are invaluable tools how is that helping to heal unhealed trauma stuck in the subconscious? How is it helping homeless people or injustices in the World that require our urgent attention? And whilst focusing on angels etc is very comforting how is that facing other distorted consciousnesses that are manipulating behind the scenes?

If you try broaching any of these subjects in the spirituality scene you're told you're 'being too negative' or 'drawing bad things in' this is complete bypassing, and essentially extremely dangerous.

This movement is also littered with spiritual ego, it's turned into a competition to some. It has in many ways even narcissistic with Instagram and Facebook abound with yoga poses on the edge of rocks by the sea and the like. To me this isn't a representation of true spirituality, it has been distorted and it doesn't feel very authentic in many cases.

In this book, I will seek to explain some of the perhaps more darker issues that we face, issues that much of this movement will either completely ignore or bypass. I call this streetwise spirituality because only by facing the dark can we achieve TRUE 'love and light'.
