4/09 ANDY HOFFMAN (CryptoGoldCentral.com): Bitcoin Maximalism, Technology Advancement, And Free Airdrops (like MWC)
I’ve made my peace with Bitcoin “maximalists” – as frankly, I’ve grown disinterested in the Bitcoin versus altcoin battle; which frankly, is like claiming the world is either black or white, and you can only choose one.
The fact is, CRYPTO technology is what’s changing the world, not Bitcoin specifically. Furthermore, even if Bitcoin is destined to “rule” the crypto world, altcoins will never go away, yielding a wide range of investment-related risk/reward profiles.
Some altcoins may change the world themselves – including, undoubtedly, some that haven’t yet been launched…or even conceived. Some are pure pump and dumps, but future versions will have to be a lot more clever than past ones, given the experience of last year’s dotcom-like bust. Some will indeed be “test nets” for Bitcoin, or other coins; and some will have value propositions completely out of the monetary or transactional realm.
One thing I do know, is that Bitcoin is still a long way from its final version; which, given rapid technology advancement, may not even resemble the current version. Perhaps, the BTC community will have to fight off new threats – like MimbleWimble; and perhaps, it will have difficulty doing so. However, what “maximalists” need to realize is an open mind will be required to navigate cryptocurrency’s evolution – in some cases, by simply accepting and embracing FREE airdrops…particularly ones like MWC, that not only have the potential to soar due to MimbleWimble’s incredible potential, but could also serve as a hedge in case it threatens Bitcoin.
In his latest article, MWC lead dev Chris Gilliard gives another brilliant summary of the case against maximalism – as whether you want to accept it or not, 99% of crypto investors care not a whit about philosophy or social values; but simply, whether their investments go up in value.
