THE DOG NEXT DOOR!
This is my entry for Daily Photography Contest: Theme: Animal Photography, curated and sponsored by @juliank and @photocontests.
I was spending a very enjoyable 'Mother's Day' with my family at my son and daughter in laws place yesterday when the dog next door came to the fence and looked at all the fun that was happening beyond the fence. He had what appeared to be favourite soft toy wedged between his teeth and his eyes told us in no uncertain terms that he was feeling left out.
So my husband went over to the fence to play 'Fetch.' He tried to get the stuffed toy out of the dogs mouth so that he could throw it in the yard behind him and allow him to do what dogs generally love to do.........Play 'Fetch.'
The idea was a good one but The Dog Next Door wasn't prepared to relinquish the stuffed toy in his mouth. Not for one minute!
He didn't mind getting some attention and a pat on the back but that much loved toy, damp with dog dribble and looking worse for wear remained firmly clenched between the dogs teeth. Maybe next time John will get to play 'Fetch' with the Dog Next Door!"

Dogs often have favorite toys, it's very strange and very nice. Do not take anything away from her, it's dangerous, she can even bite ...
Thanks for your concern @marymik23 My husband is very familiar with dogs 🐕 and he certainly did not try very hard to take the toy from this dog. He may be big but he has a very gentle nature.......talking about the dog 🐶 of course. 😀

What a beautiful response to this photo @mister-omortson Thank you so much. He is new to the neighbourhood and I'd only seen this dog from beyond the fence prior to this day so it was lovely to get close to him and appreciate what a special, intelligent and loving dog he is. My son has a King Charles Cavalier dog and these two love running up and down the fence line playing with each other. They never seem to tire of it and it is delightful to watch.

I can understand your reluctance to get another dog after what happened @mister-omortson They definitely become much loved members of the family and it is extremely sad to lose them.........but, they do bring you so much happiness. One day you might be able to have another dog and when you care for them as much as you obviously do, remember that you are providing them with plenty of love and attention and are able to bring them happiness too. It works both ways.
