Word of the day “Flight” - Quail are awkward in the air!

Quail are extremely quick on the ground but man do they look funny in the air. Sure they can fly just fine for short periods of time but they get almost no lift out of the flapping they do with their wings. The way they fly reminds me of the cartoons were people strap wings on and try to jump off a building flapping crazily only to land face first on the ground.

Not completely sure how this quail managed to land on the top of the fence but it was a good look out for him and he was able to successfully alert his family to find shelter while he flew the other direction straight into a tree. When I say straight into a tree I mean into the trunk face first because he was too busy flapping his wings to pay attention to where he was going.

Kind of relates to life in a way, yes you’re free to go whichever direction in the air but you have nothing to slow you from colliding with obstacles especially when you get stuck in an air current! At that point it’s only skill and determination allowing you to stick your landing graceful or not.
