Animalphotography - Seals at the beach in Helgoland

On my trip to Helgoland we did a lot of wildlife photography. Mostly birds but also pictures of seals and some landscape pictures where on our list to accomplish. I was really happy to catch so many different interesting birds there and i am sure i have to visit this place once again soon. But i am sure Ireland and Icelande will be the trips earlier in the future for me. The seals in helgoland where mostly only enjoying the sun when they where lying on the beach to rest from the exhausting hunts they do with the fish in der water. As you need to stay 30m away from the seals you need a long lens like the 150-600mm lens and then crop a bit from the image to get even closer. These pictures are all taken with 600mm focal lengh and cropped in Photoshop at 100%.

If you get to close to them they feel disturbed and may even attack you if you're not careful enough. That's why you definitely need a long focal lengh with you to get some nice shots. With my 600mm on a Crop Camera i had the perfect gear to get some pretty shots like these, but i still had to crop the images to get a really closeup picture of them. In my opinion the seals there in helgoland have a pretty nice live with just realaxing the whole day. If they get hungry they just need to go into the sea and catch a fish.
