INSECT MACROPHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTION: BEETLES /COLECCIÓN DE MACROFOTOGRAFÍA DE INSECTOS: ESCARABAJOS

The beetles belong to the Coleoptera Order of Insects. They are the most numerous and diverse group of insects with around 375000 species described, in addition, this Order contains more species than any other Order within the Animal Kingdom. The beetles present a great morphological diversity and the great majority are herbivores. The larvae of many species are important pests for crops.

A particular characteristic of the beetles is that the first pair of wings, which are called elytra, are hardened and provide protection to the second pair of wings, the chest and the abdomen. Visually beetles are very attractive due to their great morphological variety of coloration.

The photographs that I show below were made in different places in Venezuela and Colombia. I hope you enjoy watching these photos as I did when I made them.

Los escarabajos pertenecen al Orden Coleóptera de los Insectos. Son el grupo más numeroso y diverso de insectos con alrededor de 375000 especies descritas, además, este Orden contiene más especies que cualquier otro Orden dentro del Reino Animal. Los escarabajos presentan una gran diversidad morfológica y la gran mayoría son herbívoros. las larvas de muchas especies son importantes plagas para los cultivos.

Una característica particular de los escarabajos es que el primer par de alas, que reciben el nombre de élitros, se encuentran endurecidas y brindan protección al segundo par de alas, al tórax y al abdomen. Visualmente los escarabajos son muy atractivos debido a su gran variedad morfológica de coloración.

Las fotografías que les muestro a continuación fueron realizadas en diferentes lugares de Venezuela y Colombia. Espero que disfrutes tanto viendo estas fotos como yo al hacerlas.
