Klaipeda/Smiltyne - Ferry to the Other Side
When you travel to Lithuania, one of the must places to visit is Curonian Spit. To reach it, one can get a ferry from Klaipeda just like we did back in April 2010.
Our journey began at the New Ferry Port, which facilitates passengers, cyclists as well as vehicles. This was the most appropriate route considering we were travelling by car.

The transportation to the Curonian Spit was fairly fast and not very memorable since there was much to look forward on the other side. However, the return journey was very relaxed and I have had a chance to take some pictures.

As soon as we got on the ferry and it began its movement, we were surrounded by the hungry birds. Everyone began to search for some food to attract the seabirds - we were not an exclusion. A pastry meant for later snack got torn to small pieces and thrown into the air and even held up high for birds to snatch.

Facilities at the port were rather limited. I was trying to find a toilet at the Smiltyne Port with no luck. But I am sure the situation has been improved over the years.

Thinking about the most important - price and timetable - it is not all bad. The transfer happens once to three times an hour depending on the time of the day - obviously! The ticket varies in price and would be cheap if you are just a pedestrian, but goes up if you are not! I am not sure what we paid back in the days considering it was all priced in Litas (I hope I got this one right). Nowadays one would have to travel with Euros around Europe and never think twice about the exchange rate. Simples!

By the way, the ferry doesn't look big but good enough to carry plenty! As long as you are in the queue, you will get a lift to the other side - be it Smiltyne or Klaipeda.

Interesting article @rimicane. Lithuania is still on my list of places to visit! 😊
You should add the whole Baltic region! As a tourist - it is fairly cheap to eat out. The accommodation seems to reach European price tags.
They are probably already on the list @rimicane. Along with a load of Eastern European countries I've yet to get to.
Not to mention all the cities I've not made it to yet like Rome, Lisbon, Florence etc. etc. My list is huge. 😊
Love the photo of the seagull flying.
Thank you!
what a beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing
