Meerkats

in #animalphotography5 years ago (edited)

When ever i am at a zoo i spend quite some time at the habitat of the meerkats, with or without a camera. I find it so great to watch at the whole structure these animals have for signaling each other. I can say this is one of my favorite animals for quite some time now, i also liked the special series that was made about a meerkat family in the wild (can't remember the name now).
So here some cute meerkat shots overlooking the group for danger,

Those are great captures and congratulations to your post.

Thinking about your subject, it reminded me of the movie, "Life of Pi". I don't know if you were able to watch that movie but allow me to share it with you. In the movie, the protagonist is a survivor of a ship that sunk somewhere in the Pacific and was adrift with a tiger in a lifeboat. In a scene, they were able to land on an island where a numerous mob of meerkats can be found. My first impression of the animals was that they are among the dumbest creature I have ever seen in a movie because they merely moved when Pi and the tiger came near to them. The tiger even ate some of them without signaling danger to the others. I assume that these meerkats must have no sense of threat from them maybe because it is their first time to meet other creatures aside from them. The only threat that they know is when during the time the island became sunken and they go to the branches of the trees. Anyway, I just hope that this is not the case for the meerkats in the wild or else they would be easy prey to some predators.

I am fascinated by how you treat such an animal with value by making them the subject of your photography. It just proves that you gave value to every living creature and every one of them is just as important to the others that are widely known in the ecosystem. Your works are truly commendable.

Keep up the good work man. Cheers!

Thank you for your comment @edencourage.
I know of the existence of this movie, and it's one on my to watch list but it hasn't come to that. In real life meerkats have quite a defense system with always one overseeing the environment from a higher place when the group is out in the open in combination with a series of calls for different types of danger (from the sky or from land for instance). This is what i remember from some nature shows with meerkats in them.
Nice view in this movie on that fear is not something in your genes but that it comes from experiences in life.
Thank you on your view on me about animals, indeed all are needed for an ecosystem (even the spiders :D). I always been a fan of animal photography, find animals such great models with sometimes human like facial expressions, and this has grown since i got a workshop animal photography from my girlfriend. So keep an eye out here, more animal shots will follow here.

Cheers!

Great shots. They are an unusual looking animal. We have a number of television advertisements using Meerkats and you would be sure they can talk. lol.

Compare the meerkat. Said in Russian accent. They even have merchandise for them now. And you don't have to pay them actors equity either !

Thank you for your visit and comment! Haha indeed the way they behave and stand makes you wonder. Maybe if there are no humans around they start talking to each other..lol

My pleasure @tijntje Yes.......I'd love to get into their minds to know how they think. Meerkats are both amusing and loveable creatures. 😊

I like them too, they are cute!

Thanks for the visit today.
I think there are not many people who don't like these cute animals.

Wow. What a crowd favourite both with the zoo guests and the steemit community. > 1000 upvotes !

Was it easy to get good photos of them ? Was it crowded and hard to get a good position ?

Indeed wow. Thanks to a curie vote in went over a thousand upvotes...first time for me :D
It was quite easy getting these shots, at the zoo where i took these you can get close to the meerkats without disturbing them too much. And because i was at the zoo at opening (9a.m.) it was nice and calm when i did my initial round with the camera, not too much little crying kids at that time disturbing the animals.

Awww.... I just think they are such cuties... :) They seem very smart too! You got them with some great expressions! :)

Thank you @ackhoo! Such great models these cute funny animals.

I also like Meerkats and we used to have them living in the bush down the road from my last house. They are very family/ group orientated and I could spend hours watching them. You got some nice photographs.

Thank you so much for your visit and comment. I think all i would do is watch the meerkats all day if there was a colony down the road.

You took great clicks @tijntje 👌
It looks like a younger brother of Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy 😄

@curie brought me here.

Thank you @bloggerkrunal. Haha indeed, other species but look a bit alike.

Your shots are really great. Each one is nice. It's rare to see a photo feed where you cannot decide which photograph is the best :)

Thank you for your very kind comment @mcnestler
