Meet Illuka, the super happy, super friendly labrador who helps look after all our babies!

Dogs have always been considered mans best friend but through thousands of years of selective breeding some just make better family pets than others. Labradors have to be one of the most popular dog breeds out there, as well as being one of the friendliest.

This is Illuka, Illuka is an 8 year old pure-bred labrador who we initially were only meant to foster for a year as part of the Guide Dogs Australia training program.
Basically they come to you as an adorable little puppy and you give them their basic training, after a year they go back to the facility to complete training and be paired with a vision impaired person, It's sad giving them back but it helps a good cause and, well, Puppy....

Now that she's getting older she loves nothing more than cuddling up on the couch while you watch tv, though she still does get the excitement of a puppy if you take her to the park or to meet her other doggo friends.

Illuka is the unfortunate victim of my mothers dress up games, luckily she's an incredibly patient dog but I don't know how much I could handle it if I were her.

She is probably one of the only dogs we could have here with all the rescue animals around and the children who come to visit/stay. She is a certified pussy, If anything attacks her, and I mean anything she will simply roll over onto her back with her legs in the air "surrendering" whilst making whining crying noises. I have witnessed this from attacks by goats, cats, baby wombats, birds and other tiny dogs.
She does however, love to make friends and does so with anyone that will have her, regardless of the species.

Whenever I think back on my old pets I always think "she was the best or he was the best" but really I couldn't pick a favorite, they're all awesome in one way or another and they have all made me happy. Illuka is the perfect cuddle buddy for a cry but a terrible partner for a lunch date so, they all have their strengths :P

In the interest of road safety Illuka asks you wear your seat-belt at all times.

Anyway this was my canine companion Illuka, the resident labrador of the wildlife rescue and best friend to everyone :)
