Frayed.

The only cord he could find was a power cord.

"It is an old one", he thought, " but who cares. I am old too and so is she."

Those days she recognized him, smiled her special smile to him were over.
He visited her for 14 years.

"Fifty years of marriage, 14 years of visiting her."

He knew she could not help for not remembering him but that her eyes looked and smiled at every stranger except him was more as he could bear.

His fingers stroke the cord for the last time and as he kicked the kitchen staircase away his warm amber eyes closed once and for good.
