Stellaris: Third Situation Report for the United Nations of Earth

in #archdruid5 years ago (edited)

This is the third of my situation reports (Part 1 and Part 2) of my ongoing Stellaris game which is propelling humankind into space under the aegis of the United Nations of Earth.

Federation

A lot has happened quite swiftly since my last report. As you can see from the galaxy map at the top of this post, most of the galaxy is now explored due to communications being established with alien civilisations, with star map information filtering through diplomatic channels. However, the biggest change in my geo-political status is the formation of a Federation, with the United Nations of Earth and the Yibrak Union as the founding members. In short order, we granted the Poeblina (to the north) and the Unified Joeblinan Colonies (to the south of the Yibrak) association status.

The primary benefit of this Federation is the fact that we have formed a large defensive pact (with associated migrations and trade treaties) and a powerful shared star fleet that draws upon our shared resources and technology. In short order, the Joeblina were given full membership status, which unfortunately worsened ties with the Hazar Trade Association to the south.

The Euruxi proved unwilling to join the Federation, and a war broke out between the Euruxi and the Yibrak... which meant that the Federation was drawn into the war. The Euruxi still had a powerful fleet, but the fact that the Federation were attacking from multiple directions meant that the single Euruxi fleet was out-maneuvered. The Euruxi homeworld was quickly invaded and occupied which led to a quick end to the war after their fleet was also caught in a three way trap as it tried to break the blockade of the homeworld.

This sudden and overwhelming defeat of the Euruxi Authority has lead to two breakaway empires that have rejected the rule of the Euruxi overlords. The Euruxi Cartel (Dark blue) immediately begged to be incorporated into the United Nations of Earth as a vassal state, whilst the Euruxi Stellar Co-operative (Light Blue) has remained hostile to the Federation.

Galactic Commercial Hub

The great trade hub of the galaxy was established on Earth (star sector Sol) with great fanfare. A hearty congratulations to our diplomats who were able to secure this prestigious prize for the United Nations of the Earth.

Fallen Empires

Our continued exploration of the Galaxy has uncovered the existence of three Fallen Empires. These are old civilisations from an earlier awakening of intelligence in the Galaxy who have retreated into isolation for different reasons. One seeks to research the young intelligent races, another seeks to preserve holy relics and sites in the galaxy and the other hides behind a powerful military and wall of star fortresses.

These Civilisations are dangerous to our upcoming Federation, as we are severely outmatched in every field of comparison. If they so chose, we would be wiped out without breaking a sweat. Caution and careful diplomacy is the order of the day her.

The closest of these empires is the Ganlarev Shard, an isolationist militaristic Empire. We know nothing of them, except that they promise destruction if we settle too close to their borders. Unfortunately, one of our Federation members is coming quite close to their borders. Hopefully, they will see the folly of such an action and refrain from colonising the planets that are on the border. Otherwise, we are in for a world of pain... or a quick parting of ways!

Futher to the West, are the Ik-Nur-Val Ancients. These seem to be an inquisitive empire that is keen on studying and observing the younger races. Ironically, it also what we are doing to the Iron-Age empire of Fungoids in our borders!

Their first request for information on the various races that we had gathered in the past was non-threatening and easy to fufill. We gladly handed over the information to keep them happy.

However, their second request was that we transfer to them a few million humans to their safekeeping. These humans would be implanted onto a natural habitat and kept secure and studied, so it appears that they would become like zoo animals...

After much deliberation, we acquiesced to their request. We could not afford to anger such a powerful empire. The population was drawn by an incredibly unpopular lottery, and there has been disquiet throughout the general populace of United Nations of Earth about this decision. Sometimes, as a leader, you have to make unpalatable choices. The consequences of standing up on principle sometimes is not a feasible option...

The Ancients were very pleased with us though... and gifted us three surplus "Escort" class vessels. These tiny ships are vastly more powerful than anything ever seen in the galaxy since the fall of these ancient empires. Three of them is a treasure... our gift for betraying our fellow Humans... time will tell if this was the right choice or not. Hopefully, history will record the terrible choices that were forced upon the current leaders of the Federation to ensure it's continued survival....
