Gem of the Day: The Floating Office

Hi Steemians, it has been awhile since my last An Architecture Curation a day series. My friend @eric-isaiah and my self were in midst of preparing data for a pitching event , and accompany a group of friends who come over from every corner of Malaysia to Sabah for hiking trip.

So, Let's begin with........................... our topic of the day ** Floating Office**

This floating wonder is design by K2S Architects and it is located at Katajanokka, Helsinki, Finland. The building area is about 950 square meter, and it could be extend across the water body if any office occupant increase. How cool is it, that you could adjust your unit size according to number of occupants.

The floating structure is the new head-quarters of Arctia Shipping Ltd. and it will be placed in front of the listed main building of the Finnish ministry of Foreign Affairs which was originally designed by C.L.Engel.

The interior of the building or the main lobby, you will be greeted with a full glass facade, and well illuminate by natural lighting. Clean, and simplicity of the lobby makes the environment more spacious and more welcoming. In addition, see through glass facade display a wonderful backdrop of the port, with ships parked near by (What a scene!).

Like the main entrance, the rear of the structure also install with glass facade. This is to increase the percentage of natural lighting penetrate in to building. Besides that, the background or surrounding of the structure is always the best backdrop for those who are inside to enjoy.

At a length of 50 meter, it is almost as long as a ship (picture as comparison). It only lacks of an engine, then it could maneuver around the water.

Every inch of the structure are useful and even at pontoon level. There is room for storage an technical room. On the other hand, to own a basement level (equivalent to pontoon level) on a landed property will be more expensive due to excavating and necessary construction method and material to avoid defects.
