Gem of the Day: The Floating island???

Would like to own an island, but it is to expensive to own? Here is an island that you could build and let it float in middle of the harbour.

Or, just it could be just your free time escape location.

The floating timber island is designed by design studio Fokstrot, an Australian architect Marshall Blecher and Magnus Maarbjerg. The floating island named CPHØ1, is a prototype floating island which will move around Copenhagen harbor to make the buzzing or usual or normal habour more interesting.

With a little touch of creativity, the design team created an oasis in the middle of the harbour. The best part is, the island is free for anyone to go and you could reach the island by boat and anyone could hold an event such as, fishing, barbecues, camping, and swimming. Furthermore, this floating could drag to other location and serve different function to the locals.

with those activities it could hold, the size of the island must be huge. However, it is a small island with an area of 20 square meter, but together with your parked boat next to it, the area could become larger.

The island is an art and with an environmental friendly approach, it was constructed with hand-crafted wooden made entirely from sustainable sourced local and recycled materials, and is supported by recycled plastic bottles, with a 6m tall small leafed linden tree that’s been placed in the center.

What does this island project tell us??

Public space would not just limited on land, it also applicable in a floating platform. Furthermore, it strengthen local community by allowing all public to share the same space and allowing locals to figure the activity that can be perform on this open platform. Besides that, it spice up once a dull, or boring environment.

What else??

According to Blecher and Maarbjerg, both architects have ave proposed nine islands, each with different functions. These include a diving board, a small stage, a sail-in cafe, a mussel farm and a sauna. This ambition is to create a platforms to combine and form a network, creating what the architects call a "parkipelago" in the harbour. In future, these platform will be connected together for festivals or special events.

How cool was it!!

Can it be implemented in Malaysia?

Yes, it is possible, but just need to find a suitable location with not waves and busy shipping route of body of water. A lake or slow flowing river would be nice. Then, you might need to obtain necessary approval from local authority for the project.

After that, you need get your own a great designer for it!!!
