When we arrived at Shanghai Train Station at 6.20 AM on 24th June 2018, it is too early to catch a flight back to Malaysia which is scheduled at 3.00 PM. We have enough time to take a half day city tour to the popular "Chenghuang Temple" 上海老城隍庙

The Nanchang Train Station is the biggest I have ever seen. Of course, this is one of the cities in China, I believed there is an even bigger train station in bigger cities like Beijing and Shanghai.

Just look at the seating benches, there are rows of them and are widely spread. They are almost fully seated with travelers and you cannot find congestion between the seating benches. Perhaps, it is different during weekends and holiday seasons which I heard train stations are packed with travelers.

There is something unique in this station, there are Charging corners for handphone. Rows of USB sockets are installed and travelers make use of the waiting time to charge their handphone or play mobile games while charging.

At the train platform, I think there are 6 to 8 rail tracks which have 6-8 trains parked on it. This train station serves several major cities in China such as Hangzhou, Xi'an, Nanning, Changsha, Xiamen, Beijing, Guilin, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc as you can see from the schedule display board

From the size of the waiting lounge and the number of seating benches and passengers, you can imagine the number of travelers on a daily basis. I never expect such a big crowd at this train station though. Just look at the long and number of queues when the gate is open for entry. Travelers walk into the station orderly while reading their handphone. You should thank the handphones these days.

This train station has an eating place where you will not go on hunger. There is a McDonald on the first floor and 2 restaurants on the lower floor. Several convenience stores are also available at the lower ground floor. I eat in one of these restaurants. I noted the price is not cheap. It cost about RMB30 for a simple rice meal. No wonder some of my Chinese friends told me the living standard in bigger cities in China is very high.

Instant noodle seems to be popular and convenient as there are hot water facilities on both sides of the station. You could see travelers cook their instant noodle with the hot water provided and eat on the tables available near the hot water stations. The authority has their way to take care of the budget travelers though.
