The Perch: Chandler, Arizona

This evening we had the pleasure of enjoying a drink in the company of dozens of tropical birds, macaws, parakeets, parrots, and more. The funny thing is, we weren’t in the tropics. Nowhere near a rainforest, and we certainly weren’t in a pet store.

In fact, we were in the desert. In a little suburb of Phoenix, Arizona called Chandler. Chandler, Arizona is home to one of the more imaginative brew pubs I’ve ever been to, The Perch. The Perch not only brews and serves their own delicious recipes of ciders, ales, stouts, and more, but they also serve as a home for rescued birds of all kinds.

In thousands of cases each year, beautiful exotic birds are purchased as pets and then abandoned, neglected or set loose because someone failed to understand the care that is required for keeping such a creature. The colorful array of rescue birds housed at The Perch are loved and given a second chance to bond with more caring humans. The Perch provides these birds with a forever home.

In addition to being an awesome, animal saving, rescue home, The Perch rocks their business side by crafting amazing brews. Their menu also features some tasty food of the typical bar food variety: flatbreads, sandwiches, salads and mac and cheese.

I failed to order a beer, but their signature cocktails were inventive, well named (Wall Street Iced Tea, Anticuado, Moscow Made Me Do It, etc.), and well made. As for the beer, my husband did order a cider, and we had no complaints whatsoever, as the taste was absolutely perfect.

If you find yourself visiting the Phoenix, Arizona area, the drive to Chandler will be well worth your time if you choose to visit this innovative pub and animal rescue.
