Luzon Wart Frog: Painting
Luzon Wart Frog, Fejervarya vittigera
A journey to my five - hour work in progress
The Luzon wart frog, Fejervarya vittigera, is a species of frog in the Dicroglossidae family. It is endemic to the Philippines where it occurs on all the major islands. It is an abundant and common species occurring in a range of man-made habitats, such as agricultural areas, ditches, artificial ponds and lakes. It uses nearly any body of available water for breeding.

Some of you may have seen my Bio-Mecha Frog painted in 8"x8 " board using acrylic, clear epoxy resin and metal parts. This time I'm making a big version of it but representing one of the Philippine Endemic Frog, the Luzon Wart Frog. It will be part of an exhibit soon.
Materials & Tools
- 24"x24" Framed Canvas
- Acrylic Paint ( Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Golden Orchre, Burnt Umber, Titanium White)
- Water
- Flat Brush
- Pointed Brush
- Pencil
Process
I prepared my canvas and drew the outline of the frog using pencil.
Then I pour and smudge paints all over the canvas to achieve a little abstract and grunge style background. I placed it dried under the sun to dry it faster.
After the background has dried, I started to paint the frog. I used colors Burnt Sienna, Ram Umber and White. I mixed Burnt Sienna and Titanium white to get a flesh color that is needed for the frog's back stripe.
As you can see in the picture above, I can't think how to finish its hind legs so I have to cover it as much as possible but still looks nice.
I covered that part with a silhouette of a plant. I'm not planning to paint it with green because I want to retain the brown theme of my painting. I also painted a rock below the frog so and made it appear like the frog is about to leap.
It's challenging for me to paint a rock texture. But here's what I do. After I finished the underpaint of it, i applied black painy on its surface. Then I mix white and black to get a gray color and dab my brush on the mixture and painted the upper part of the rock with it. I added details of black and white on some part of it to achieve a rough texture. And then I need to look at it in a distance to see if I got the right texture. If not, i have to add more texture using black and white.
And there it is.
I added more leaves on the left side of it to make it more balanced and also to cover the unwanted paint on the canvas. It's also a silhouette.
I add more details to the skin of the frog to make it look more real and moist. Adding Shadows could also help the image to become more realistic.
And then I work on the upper part of the painting. I'm thinking if I should add more details or just leave it like that. So if you have a suggestion, i would glad to read and consider it.
Thank you for reading my painting blog. I hope you all like it.

Watch out for my next painting blog :)
IT'S A JELLYFISH
Wow, that is a huge and scary frog :D I wouldn't go near it, not for all the tea in China 😁
Ok, jokes aside, the painting is great! You did a great job with the details, it looks really real. I like the background and the texture. Well done, congratulations and have a nice weekend!
Thank you @erikah :) i hope you're not really scared of them 😊
Thank you for appreciating the painting 🎨
My pleasure. I'm not scared of them, of course but I want them as far away from me as possible 😁
Well done, what a pretty frog @aalagenesis very talented and interesting to learn about wildlife in your part of the world.
Congratulations on selection by @curie
Thank you for appreciating my painting :) I'm always interested in animals eversince I was a child and I even have pet frogs and toads
Fantastic skills showing how you create and add the texture. It looks so real and life like. The frog takes centre stage and you have done some great work here. I am sure it will be well received when it goes on show.
Thank you @cryptoandcoffee for appreciating my piece :) nice comments and compliments like these are more than enough for me

I don't like frogs; actually, I may say I hate them (long stories), but I must confess it was kind of cool to this this one literally emerging out of the canvas.
Great work.
Looking forward to seeing the end result.
Thank you so much @hlezama. This is very flattering.
I hope that that hate would go away 🐸
Hahaha. If they stay away from my face while I sleep, yep, I may stop despising them.
Oooo my God....., such an amazing painting you have in there and like I say always art is indeed life. Now see how a Luzon Wart Frog is been portrayed to be a living.
Such a great skill you have got and I really love your combination of colours. It made the painting such a great one.
Also you went on to show everyone reader the process he/she can use to make a similar painting.
I enjoyed reading your blog and always keep the painting spirit up always

Oh! Luzon wart looks so cool :D I like the posture he is in just before taking the jump. His eyes also came out be so prominent in the painting, completely fixed at the destination. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed looking at him :)
Thank you so much :) I'm glad that you noticed the eyes :D
Beautiful artwork! There's always something that gets us closer to the frogs than to other wild animals. Maybe it's their deep sound that doesn't let us sleep when we are relatively close to them, I don't know hahaha.
Thanks for sharing!
Who knows, may be frogs can sing well in the future too!
Thank you for appreciating my artwork
