Painting Westworld sketch in moleskine (+STEPS)

Hello Steemians!

This is quick study of William from the Westwold series. I needed some practice to get back to my painting routine so I went with a simple portrait study. Here is some steps of the proccess:

First, the simple drawing with a graphite pencil. When I am satisfied with it I am covering the page with clear acryllic medium, it dries very fast so I can paint with oils on top of it in a hour or two.

Here I am discovering the darkest part of the face, finding core shadow and lighest darks.

Next step is to cover background and find the darkest dark - in this case I've decided it should be tuxedo and bowtie

This stage of the sketch was the most time-consuming - after establishing brightest light (white of the shirt) I filled all the puzzle pieces one by one - half tone of the face, lightest halftones, eyes et cetera. I don't concern about highlights here, the same with the drawing - I can always find it if needed.

Now it is time to build the forms in the light and bring back some likeness. The rest is just tweaking around and putting the highlights. Here is another photo of the finished painting:
