BEASTLY TALES

SOLDIERING ON

So, how many times, if you do please,
Have we unnecessarily contracted a contagious disease?
From exceedingly inconsiderate buffoons,
Who insist on “Soldiering On” like loons.
Yes, forcing themselves through a day’s routine,
Contaminating all around. How obscene!
Whether a simple cold or the flu,
Sending airborne saliva or spew,
Impregnated with bacteria ready to infect,
Consideration and cleanliness, they seem to reject.

Viruses do seem to be getting much worse,
Not responding to anything, feelings adverse.
Of course pharmacies have rows of shelves,
Dedicated to people who only care for themselves.
Yes, “Soldiering On” remedies that enable those infected,
To ignore their symptoms, have them rejected,
And get themselves assimilated in crowds,
Spluttering and coughing, as if needing shrouds,
“Soldiering On” at others expense,
Thinking themselves admirable, but really so dense!
They clearly have no consideration or brains
As they symbolically sing out germ warfare refrains.

There’s Norbet Nutter, the envy of most,
“Haven’t missed a day’s work,” He would boast,
“In forty years.” He must be soft in the scone,
How does he manage? He just Soldiers On.
Now, how many people along such a path,
Has he laid low, with a throat like a giraffe,
Because the fool insists on “Soldiering On”,
Contaminating those around, thinking he’s won.

At least in Japan they consider it right,
To wear a face mask, if not feeling too bright!
Consideration and common sense,
Showing you care, in a method intense.
But in the West, such measures are thought odd,
“Better to look normal,” Thinks the infected clod!
So, think hand sanitisers and wipes,
To fight back against underhand swipes,
Germ Warfare is alive and well,
Common sense can all go to hell!

Hello, I think that everyone should act as he sees fit, I am from Venezuela where it is also strange to wear masks, but my parents accustomed me to use them when I had the flu and so I educated my children, if people look and observe, they also comment on seeing someone with a mask but I do not care about people's comments.

Thank you for your comment.

Consideration and common sense is something a lot of people are lacking in nowadays. There's a much higher percentage of buffoons, who only think of themselves. This is such a great poem, well done.😁

Thank you for your very nice and true comment.
