THE COOKIE CUTTER

Flour and Sugar,
Fruit and butter,
Then we need a cookie cutter.
Mix them well, don’t be a sloven,
Then bake them crisp, in the oven.
Line them up, just to cool,
Don’t eat them yet, don’t be a fool.
Wait until they are cool and crispy,
Make believe that you’re a Gypsy.
Now, if they are not all the same,
The cookie cutter’s not to blame.

So it is when one joins a club,
Club Rules you’d better not dare to snub.
Should you be not exactly the same,
You will surely be held up to blame.
Cookie Cutter correctness is all the go.
Conform, or soon, out you’ll go, as you know.
It’s rather like that other thing that does appal,
The insistence that “one size fits all!”
But it’s not only in the realm of Club Rules,
That cookie cutting is just for fools.
It’s also your persona, just what you are,
If you’re too different, you won’t get far.

If cliques of those of the same ilk,
Do differ too much, then for you no Milk,
Of Human kindness, you will be rejected,
Even if to high office you don’t want to be elected.
Cookie Cutter conceptualising,
Is not so very much surprising.
Look at an extreme, yes, the armed forces.
All marching along on pre-marked courses.
Behaviour is not the only Cookie Cutter aspect,
Uniforms and grooming another C.C element we suspect.
In fact we don’t suspect, we know for sure,
Some find such sameness a tantalizing lure.

Conformity, so one does not stand out,
Don’t underestimate the enormity of non-conformity,
At your peril, you’ll risk social deformity.
An old saying, “Don’t Rock the Boat”,
Especially if you wish to stay afloat,
This sums up this Cookie Cutter approach.
Be one of the herd, thus avoiding reproach.
