The 'CL:OC' by 'Grosse 8' isn't just any old ordinary clock, it's an extraordinarily large, mechanically driven digital clock consisting of very bright cathode tubes for the numerical segments rather than the boring small LED's that we see everyday.
CL: OC is a kinetic room installation. With elegant artful movements, it allows the viewer to literally see time pass. The seemingly floating fluorescent tubes form abstract patterns and form once a minute to digital digits, with which the time is displayed. The sculpture is powered by 28 engines. Source: Grosse 8
Each time a minute passes, a set of 28 motors rearranges the hanging tubes via the highly complicated set off pulleys. This can also be set up to display the hanging tubes in random and strangely hypnotizing ways.
I can just imagine how awesome would this look in places such as large nightclubs, concert stages or anywhere like that for that extra special effect of which I would expect would get noticed pretty quickly.
Feel free to watch the video above to see this piece of art in action.
