Hi Steemit family!

Today is the turn of another great painter of urban landscapes in hyperrealism, recognized for portraying many cities around the world, I'm talking about Robert Neffson. Come with me to know the main aspects of this American artist.

Robert Neffson was born in New York City in 1949. He belongs to the post-war painters, not only is he known for his excellent urbanistic landscapes, but he has also made works in bodegon style and diverse figures.

Since he was young he attended the Art Students League of New York in 1961 where he had the honor of receiving classes by artists such as Lennart Anderson and Sidney Dickinson, being outstanding in his class for being able to imitate perfectly the artists who were exhibiting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, among Neffson's inspirations are artists like Jan Vermeer, Thomas Eakins, Camille Corot, and Canaletto, he was able to perform and learn all the techniques of these painters even surpassing in details even surpassing in detail in these painters.

By 1973 he had his first master's degree in Fine Painting Arts, this time at Boston University. Although he was linked to great artists of American abstract expressionism, he felt attracted by hyperrealism to make it his preferred technique and the one that would accompany him for the rest of his life.

1n 1976 he travels to Italy where he actively participates in the American Academy in Rome, where he meets an artist who influenced him in the painting of still lifes, it is William Bailey with whom he not only shared the art but also harvested a great friendship.

Back in the United States he holds some positions as professor at Arizona State University in Tempe and Pennsylvania State University and belongs to the organization of the Roswell Museum and the Art Center in New Mexico. These connections allowed him to be an exclusive member of the first street gallery in New York where he presented many of his works in large group and individual exhibitions, New York as a city was vital for the development of Neffson as an artist of hyperrealism, in this same city is attracted by the works of Richard Estes and Chuck Close who headed the leadership of hyperrealist and photorealistic art that has been the second generation of artists of this genre.

source

Throughout his artistic life he held many positions in institutions related to art, most recently in 2004 he was commissioned to create a painting in Building 7 of the World Trade Center, in 2007 he would join Hammer Galleries and in 2009 he was named a director of the Louis K Gallery. Meisel where for the first time the term photorealism was coined.

Unlike other hyperrealist artists Neffson made many pictures of urban landscapes with people, showing the different facets of everyday life in populated cities such as New York, never limited to still lifes or the most recurrent in hyperrealism, is to choose objects of everyday life to be expanded and take advantage of the details of different textures, prefer to move on a more geometric and spatial terrain, taking advantage of the reflections of glass or smooth surfaces.

Although he has used as reference photographs made by himself to make his compositions he only uses them to make the sketch or central idea, from then on he resorts to his imagination to give better quality to the works.
