Hi Steemit family!

Today I bring you a subject of deep artistic interest rather than an artist's group, a brotherhood created in a time when realism was the master of the art, and whoever dared to innovate was immediately vetoed by the sacrosanct circles of fine arts, I am talking about the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. Join me in discovering this important movement in the history of art.

The prevailing style in the XlX century was the realism that was the only way to make art in general, in full industrial development was emerging a middle class which did not have complete knowledge and understanding of art, and therefore were willing to get an art which was easy to understand in the field of sculpture, painting and literature.

Thus, in 1948, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was founded with Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and John Everett Millais as the forerunners of this movement. All of them studied at the Royal Academy of Arts and together they devised a way to overthrow the position held by painters such as Rafael and Miguel Angel and the bourgeoisie's desire to keep these artists as the only ones in the history of art.

One of the first things this brotherhood set out to achieve was to pay attention to the spectators in the color, details and review the art made before the renaissance, return to the roots of medieval art, using realistic techniques, bone was nothing other than replacing religious images with human beauty, something that for the ultra moralistic society of the time was in.

To further understand the contribution this brotherhood made to the history of art here is a selection of 4 paintings, the beginning of a renewed and rebellious art.

Ophelia of John Everett Millais painted with an excellent color, as well as great detail in the texture of the algae, the flowers look like jewels that shine in the corpse of Ophelia, this character in case you do not know the painter extracted it from the work of Shakespeare, Ophelia was the suicidal beloved of Prince Hamlet.

Beata Beatrix by painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti was inspired by the death of his wife Elizabeth Siddal who died from an overdose of Laudanum, explaining the platonic love that elevates her to the level of a celestial magic creature. This painting was painted just one year after her death.

Queen Guenevere painted by William Morris who more than an artist was a political activist of the time, a strong opponent of industrial development for the vision of the disaster this would bring to humanity. He was very concerned about craft trades that were in danger of disappearing as a result of the mass production of mass products.

In this painting, he expresses the style of beauty, the canon imposed by the pre-Raphaelite movement and was the only one that the artist composed.

Last of England painted by Ford Madox Brown, although not considered as part of the brotherhood, had many things in common such as anti academism in art, in the picture you can see a couple emigrating middle class who say goodbye to England.

The Blind Girl by painter John Everett Millais, is a painting where you can see a girl resting on a meadow, who is blind and bears a message that says "Pity the blind", this painting stands out for excellent use of color and shadows and lights.
