Hi Steemit family!

The troubled life of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Today I bring you a little about the life of a post-impressionist painter, this week may begin with a special impressionist and post-impressionist, for me of the best stages of recent art, if you want me to make publications dedicated to impressionism leave a comment with your approval, today is the turn of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Come with me to learn more about this outstanding artist.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was born in France in 1864 and is considered one of the most outstanding post-impressionist painters. His life is not marked by economic problems since his family belonged to the French nobility, although at an early age he decided to lead a more bohemian life full of adventure, so it was common to find him in populations of French Catalonia. In 1872 he moved to Paris. During those same years, he had two accidents that made it impossible for him to develop his legs.

Already from 1882, he is linked to different movements and circles of artists, thanks to his economic influence, he manages to position himself quickly in the Parisian artistic scene, this helped him to understand more the form to handle the art in which it is considered the worldwide mecca of the art. At the age of 20, he already had his own studio and knew painters such as Degas with whom he had the opportunity to exhibit his works. He even met Vincent Van Gogh.

He was a great admirer of the Moulin Rouge cabaret where he always went to clear his mind, despite his disability this did not limit him, as he was considered an excellent traveler. Traveling all over Europe exposing his work. London is one of the favorite cities and where his art was very well priced.

source

Among his influences, we find a deep admiration for painters like Goya and El Greco, so after London, he moves for a while to Spain where he lived in cities like Toledo and Madrid. Where he was able to study Goya's life more closely.

The only problem in his life was alcohol, having several strong relapses where he was hospitalized, 5 times he was in ethyl coma. In his last relapse was inspired by a series of drawings called in the circus.

To have a disability was not something well seen within the aristocracy, for which the artist suffered a strong rejection of his family and other families of the same circle, perhaps this was the trigger that led him to become an alcoholic. And therefore to be a great brothel visitor. Ingesting snuff and alcohol in large quantities, these night spots also became his refuge and muse for his various works that he did throughout his life.

source

His alcoholic condition and physical disability did not prevent him from becoming one of the most emblematic artists of his time, obtaining recognition both in life and after his death.

He suffers a stroke, at that critical moment his mother looks for him to take care of him moves him to the family castle, being the 9 of September the date of his death in the year 1901.

I leave a legacy that continued some painters of the time, has also been a great inspiration for graphic designers because with his drawings created many posters for the Moulin Rouge and other local, is clear advertising in the late nineteenth century.
