But the water lilies of the French Impressionist Claude Monet are really fire dangerous, this is not a legend. The painting "set fire" several houses and museums. The first victim was the painter himself - soon after finishing the work on the painting, Monet's workshop caught fire for unexplained reasons. The Lilies themselves did not suffer. Later, the picture was acquired for the famous cabaret in Montmartre - a few weeks later it burnt to the ground.

The painting was not damaged again, and its new owner was the French collector Otto Schmidz. A year later, a fire broke out in his house, and, despite the efforts of the fire fighters, only one wall survived. The one on which the Lilies hung. The picture was considered damned, and she moved from private collections to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Soon after, in 1958, a fire broke out in the museum. One of the employees of the museum died in the fire.

Monet is one of my favorite impressionist artists. I am quite familiar with the the Water Lilly series of paintings, but had no idea such tragedies are connected to any of his work. Very interesting post! :)

I did not know this before. As soon as I started to study the paintings, I found many interesting "coincidences". Such as this. It's really interesting! Thank you
