Japan's Cultural Week - Bonsai Exhibition

Japan's Cultural Week is an event held annually in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, with the purpose of introducing the traditions of this interesting country. The event is organized by the embassy of Japan in collaboration with government agencies.

It is usually structured in a week or more days of activities. There are contests, presentations, exhibitions, music, gastronomy, games, among others. Spaces such as the BOD tower and Hacienda la Estancia have been hosts to this activity that brings together all kinds of people interested in this rich culture. The Japanese people in the country and their descendants make presence and collaborate with many of the event's activities. The Japanese College of Caracas also participates every year with an act that involves all its students and teachers. It is an enjoyable, traditional event for the whole family.

Bonsai Exhibition

This technique for growing plants, trees and shrubs in pots is part of the Japanese legacy and tradition for the world. During Japan's Cultural Week, the Venezuelan Bonsai Society presented an exhibition with all kinds of plants grown under this interesting technique.

My favorite was this tree taken from a chopped trunk (top image). It was the largest bonsai tree in the entire exhibition, and when I talked to its creator, I found out it took 10 years to take it to its current appearance. It is an art of patience to shape nature. The society has experimented with the planting of Venezuelan trees species. Some could be seen in flowering stage (cover image).

The forest-type Bonsai are very appealing. This joint trees seem to create miniature groves in large vessels. Its bases are adorned with stones and fungal species to create even more the "small" illusion of a real forest.
