How I paint comics : The Techno-Templar #29

The creation process of a comic page with watercolour and black pens. Old school style mixed with a bit of digital.

In the previous page, two Techno-Templars materialised their avatar right next to Devlok and Phate's virtual copies in order to erase them. Despite Devlok's explanations, the antagonists are attacking him with furious virtual techno-tentacles...

"Devlok, the Techno-Templar" is a 54 pages pure surreal/electro-virtual graphic novel taking place in a universe called "The Hyperhedron". I have started working on it from the begining of 2016. The story was divided in various versions of the book, often re-edited. The first coming out in May 2016 comrising other short stories. Today, around 500 copies of book one in English have been printed and a bit less in French.

To go back to this specific sequence in the network, it's been quite a difficult one, first because of all the characters which are not my strong point but also because I wanted to have it rythmed by the body going to destruction. There was also a bunch of panels to stick in, it's a bit concentrated.

The rough story-board.

First pencilings after the outlines being inked on a watered and tensed paper (Arches 300g).

Some basic inking.

In the previous pages you can see how I did the background. Here one can see how I add text on the screens.

Basic text, rasterize.

Then screen effect, all with the transformation tool of course.

Did the same for french. That's also a reason why I don't write anything straight on the original works, it makes it easier for translations.
