A Fellow Texan Is One Of Our Best Western Artists

in #art5 years ago (edited)

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

I was delighted to find out that one of my favorite Western artists lives just a couple hours South of us here in Texas. He's from Clifton and has stayed there though his painting career although he travels alot doing research of course.

His paintings are very historically accurate and he does Cowboy as well as Indian paintings.

Very savvy Sir Grelle

His story is very cool because he became interested in Western art while he was in high school and at the age of 18 he contacted two famous western artists, James Boren and Melvin Warren for their advice and criticism.

What's amazing is they just happened to settle down in the Clifton area. By the time he was in his early 20's he was able to make a fulltime living painting Western scenes and is still going strong today and lives on a ranch outside of Clifton. Talk about a dream job!

Simple but brilliant

I wanted to share one of his paintings that grabbed my attention. This one is called Valley Guardian. Obviously it is of a warrior who is on guard duty for his village on an early morning winter day.

The way his body and horse is lit up by the sun's rays is incredible and that makes a magnificent contrast in colors to the mountains in the background, it highlights the warrior and his horse beautifully and the details like the horse's breath in the cold air is perfect.

I don't think I've ever seen an Indian wearing gloves before too so that's interesting as well. It's a simple but beautiful painting.

Something else that makes Mr. Grelle interesting is that he is part Indian himself and uses family members or relatives as models in some of his paintings! This next piece is such a painting. His model is a relative.

This gorgeous artwork is called "With Wonder She Waits" and is of a wife waiting for her husband to come back to her.

Mr. Grelle gives generously of his time and resources to help others including conducting workshops and guiding other young artists. He gives credit to God for his gift and is dedicated to sharing it and helping as many people as he can.

Kudos to you sir, you are a great American and a great Texan!

Huge congrats on 68! That did seem like it took a long time, didn't it? I think 2 months is a reasonable amount of time. But no matter how long, it is still a great accomplishment!

Oh, 2 months isn't bad? Okay I feel better now. lol. How has your day been? No rain? No rain here, just hot, over 100. Sweated buckets but that's good for you. lol.

I think that is about how long it has been taking me... Maybe even a bit longer. I got to rep 71 on May 31 and I am only halfway to 72. This one is going to take longer!

It was a delightful summer day here. Not too hot low 80s and it's been getting down into the 60s at night. Great weather to have the windows open!

Congrats on your eSteem spotlight win!

Howdy today sir leeart! I agree. If I was a young pup I might be inspired to take up painting!

Age is just a number. What's stopping you? 😁😁

Howdy again sir leeart! I agree that age is just a number but I don't have the patience to start something that would take many years to learn.

Ah. I got you. 😁😁

Mornin’ Cowboy. You should visit Mr. Grelle and as a neighbor, get a deal on one of his paintings He probably has prints made of them all.
He does fab paintings. I love paintings with horses but the second one is my favorite of the woman.

Howdy today redheadpei! Well the plan is for steem to moon, then I'll go and buy originals from him! lol.
I agree, that lady waiting for her husband is special.

ALWAYS impressed by people that can paint like that!
That first one is really impressive, what caught my eye was the breath/steam coming from the nostrils of the horse!

Howdy sir simm50! I know, it's truly awesome, I can just admire a painting like that for long periods of time and it's so real. I look at that snow and the grass sticking out of it and every tiny detail is like a photo! I'm glad you enjoy it too.

Very nice painting, indeed. If I lived down there, If want to go to one of those master classes, although I haven't painted anything in a long time.

Howdy sir fotosdenada! I didn't know you were a painter, what kind of painting did you do?
