Ivory or "Garing" in Filipino
Is a hard white material derived from the teeth of animals, particularly from Elephants. Hence, the word ivory comes from the Ancient Egyptians áb or ábu, and the Latin ebor- or ebur, meaning "Elephant".

Other large mammals that possess ivory are the Warthog, Hippopotamus, Sperm Whale, Walrus, and Narwhal. Ivory is mainly composed of dentine, a body tissue similar to bone.

Given its nature, ivory is able to retain its shape for thousands of years, making it an ideal material for carving various objects.
