Inside Saint George Cathedral, Ferrara.

Here I am with the last of my posts dedicated to Ferrara. In a previous post I made a general presentation of the Cathedral of San Giorgio. Speaking of the facade in depth. Today, however, I want to talk to you about the interior of this cathedral. Throughout the centuries, the interior has been remodeled several times, creating a mix of styles and a great variety of paintings and sculptures. The internal composition is inspired by baroque architecture with redundant architecture and an extreme abundance of decorations. At the entrance there are 15th century sculptures by Benvenuto Tisi, surmounted by eighteenth-century statues of the city patrons. Each corner contains a small treasure, there are niches chapels with images of Madonnas and Saints painted by Ferrarese artists between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries.

As you enter the view is suggestive, the low lighting and the way in which the church is draped create a gothic atmosphere and a very charming vampire pinch. In addition, the bronze statues that dot it with their protese dark hands give an evocative air to the walkway towards the altar. The first image represents the statues above the tomb of Archbishop Ruggero Bovelli surrounded by dark saints and dark but of extreme visual power. Inside there are works by Guercino and Scarsellino, not photographed due to poor lighting. In addition there is located the third tomb of Urban, died during a trip to Ferrara, in mysterious circumstances. The apse covered with gilded stucco creates an interesting decoration that makes everything look very baroque. A little gem to visit, both for the precious interior and for the particular façade.  Images of my property
