Three full days on this piece, and I'm very happy with it. It's one of my favourites that I've ever done, I think. I hope you're not all too sick of it from the progress report posts I've been making. I'll add them to the end of this post for posterity, which is I think something I aught to have been doing all along with my finished pieces, even if they've been all over the blog up until now.

I didn't think I was going to be able to finish it yesterday, because as I posted in the early hours of yesterday morning, I was off to volunteer my time to something I wasn't that enthusiastic about doing. As fate would have it, though, we arrived a day early. I'm not sure how we fudged that up, but here we are! Now Mikey is at the Burning Man ranger training, and I am not, because I am double-booked to go work on our clown performance for the upcoming festival.

Being up that early was a grumpy experience, but worthwhile, since I got so much done yesterday after all.

Today of course, is also Mothers' Day, which I can't not celebrate. We can't choose who our parents are, and sometimes we suffer for it - but very fortunately for me, I got a really great mum. She raised four kids essentially by herself. I wish she hadn't been forced to sacrificed so much for our sakes, but I'm grateful for everything that she's done. The support, the guidance, the food, beds, and life are just a few of the things to mention. I don't live nearby, but I hope my siblings who do will spoil her rotten. :)
For those of you out there who don't feel as inclined to celebrate their mothers, there's no judgement on you for that. Here's a shout-out to the other people in your life who've helped support your being you.

Cheers, all!

Here's those progress pictures I promised!

Incredible work, I would love to now more about the story behind this piece I was looking through the previous post but could not find anything

Ah! You're right. This piece doesn't really have its own story as much as it's inspired by the clown painting I did before - with the balloons. I'm working on a performance piece with a couple other people for the upcoming Toronto Festival of Clowns. The original idea came to me while I was trying to write the first draft of our show, which is about the mating rituals of the common clown. :)

Oh right on thanks for sharing and I hope you will have more updates about this festive

Sounds like a killer!

Lol! Hopefully not so dark. More silliness than evil. :D

Hopefully, but a killer idea!

I can easily believe that it took you three days, with acrylic colors as they dry up so quickly and I sometimes have to make some pause then the next layer sometimes needs to be redone, so usually I try to do manage my time to finish a layer and then to do something else if needed. Your painting is beautiful and I can understand you are satisfied with your work, @rachelsvparry

Thanks @stef1! Yeah, the quick drying time is really helpful for speed. My oil paintings sometimes take a month or more, waiting for layers to dry.

VERY IMPRESSIVE PAINTING , and it was fun to read your story :-)

Thank you so much! :) :) :)

Exellent my friend. Good job

Dear Artzonian, thanks for using the #ArtzOne hashtag. Your work is valuable to the @ArtzOne community. Quote of the week: Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics. -Victor Pinchuk

Hahaha, that is really funny and strange. The symbolism of the PIE is impenetrable.

Haha! Thanks @katharsisdrill! I find it really funny how divisive it is! Most people seem to like it, but a few people seem to read something sad or malevolent with the pie (more than just the ropes).

One thing that really fascinates me and was a theme in my old fine art days art, was that image art functions even though we do not understand the concepts behind it. There are paintings by for example Tiziano that we do not know how to interpret any longer. The iconography is lost to time. We don't understand Celtic religion either, but we can see that a swimming bird, a duck or swan, is shown together with the sun. But the artwork are as fresh as one painted or smelted yesterday!
