NEW PAINTING! OLA - Orwellian Legislation Assembly

OLA (Orwellian Legislation Assembly) tw.jpg

The original thought behind this piece is from Andrea Horwath, leader of the NDP and official opposition to the PC party said to the right on the night of the midnight assembly a few weeks back, that the difference between the left and the right were that she only employed free-thinking individuals. She did not reduce her council to a bunch of clapping seals.

I loved that comment. It's obvious if you're watching the OLA either from the gallery (when they don't kick everyone out) or online, that the council members on the right have been coached to a certain conduct - to give a standing ovation every time someone from their side speaks. Every time. They all wear suits and tons of make-up, and they act like a machine.

The most recent policy to fall victim to slash and burn, or soon will be, I don't think it's official yet - the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs act. It was designed to ensure that part-time employees are not paid less than full-time employees, to ensure sick days, and 10 days emergency leave, including for people escaping domestic abuse, and vacation days. It forbade any dresscode mandate of high heels. There are other things in there too, but those are the parts I'm more familiar with. I think minimum wage is involved. I know we're not getting the hike to $15 that we had been promised.

It hasn't even been a full 4 months, and we're already like halfway back to the 1800's.

Doug Ford's motto 'For the People' has me questioning... For which people? I guess, all people are equal, but some are more equal than others.

It's all so Animal Farm. I think Doug Ford probably rules his own party with fear. He's got a long history of drugs and dealing in his family, in fact, his good family friend Sandro Lisi, (the late and former mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford's driver and friend (surrounded by drug scandal)) is running for Toronto District School Board trustee this election. How nice!

Western politics are a real shit show right now. I grew up hearing jokes that politicians are all crooks, now that seems to literally be the case.

Anyway, Doug's suit is made from seal skin here.... make of that what you will. Here are the work-in-progress shots for you to see how this all came together.

Oh man this is great. Hit the nail--or rather clubbed the seal--right on the head.

It is a sad state of affairs when this type of art can be applied to damn near any ruling party in this day and age. And every supporter drinks the kool-aid because its "my team" regardless of the actual implications of such actions. Ridiculous... but this is very well done and expertly captures the sentiment!

Beautifully done, @rachelsvparry :) I love that your arts are bold. They have a voice in them, and they are not scared to say what you want to say. Gorgeous step by step presentation as well <3 You're amazing :)
