"Evil Egg" by Richard F. Yates

in #art5 years ago

EVIL! So evil... Well, duplicitous---or ambivalent, at least... Indifferent?

Maybe what happened is that we put so much faith in the Egg, assuming that it was going to SAVE us, that, when it failed to help AT ALL, we decided it had been EVIL and planning to destroy us all along. (We are silly, and we probably should have guessed that something named EVIL EGG probably didn't have our best intentions at heart... Do eggs even have hearts?)

We want simple solutions to complex problems---and, in a pinch, we'll believe any old nonsense, if it's what we want to hear and makes us feel good.

(By the way, this post is about politics AND cryptocurrency AND religion AND [especially] dieting...) (Why is it that whenever I write something like this, a spontaneous shower of rocks starts fallen from the sky and hitting my roof?)

So the moral to the story is that EVIL EGG was probably not evil---we just wanted more from an egg than the egg was capable (or willing) to provide. And remember: Breakfast is a meal best eaten warm! And with donuts!
